Hey There, Book Lover!

A woman with curly red hair and green eyes, smiling gently, resting her chin on her hand, wearing a black top with lace details, and a watch on her wrist, in a cozy, dimly lit room with books and a lantern in the background.

— About Carrissa —

I am a traditional midwife. I have caught babies in the dark, held families through loss, driven home at 3am with hands that wouldn't stop shaking, and done it all again the next day. For nearly eighteen years I have stood at the threshold of life — the place where everything is raw and nothing is certain — and I have learned that survival is never just about making it out alive.

That's what I write about.

The Eternal Dusk series began because I needed stories with women who were built the way real women are built — complicated, capable, scarred, and still standing. Women who don't wait to be rescued. Women who make hard choices and carry the weight of them. Women who find something worth holding onto even when the world has gone completely dark. And the men who show up in full support of them.

I didn't plan to become a fiction author. I planned to spend my life with birthing people, which I still do. But the stories kept coming anyway, somewhere between prenatal appointments and postpartum visits, between the hikes through Western New York that clear my head and the weight training sessions I've started calling Apocalypse Training because that felt more honest than just calling it the gym.

My writing is shaped by everything I know about the human body under pressure — in birth rooms, in the dark, in the places women survive that never make it into polite conversation. I know what people reach for when everything else is stripped away. I know what it costs to keep standing. That's where these stories come from.

If you found me through the birth world — welcome. The fiction is waiting when you're ready.

If you found me through the fiction — welcome. Now you know why Mara knows so much about herbs.

— When I'm Not Writing —

At the Threshold

I spend my days catching babies, supporting families through the hardest moments of their lives, and sitting with elderly clients who deserve the same quality of presence at the end of life as at the beginning. The threshold work never stops — and it shapes everything I write.

Moving Through the World

I lift heavy things at the gym and call it Apocalypse Training because that felt more honest than just calling it fitness. When I'm not there, I'm hiking the wilds of Western New York — the same landscapes that end up in every forest scene I've ever written.

Herbalism & Old-World Wellness

Eighteen years of Reiki, Ayurveda, reflexology, and plant medicine. It shows up in the birth work, in the elder care, and unmistakably in Mara. Some knowledge lives in the hands before it ever makes it onto a page.
