Birth is chaos.
It is blood and rupture, lullaby and thunder.
It is laughter tangled with grief, milk flooding the world, silence that breaks the strongest hearts.
In this debut collection, midwife and author Carrissa Smith gathers the raw truths of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and loss into a lineage of words. These poems are not tidy. They are blood-soaked, milk-drunk, grief-heavy, and awe-filled. They are scripture written in stretch marks, hymns sung in rocking chairs, laments whispered over tiny graves.
Blood, Milk, and Thunder is a witness to the sacred mess of motherhood, midwifery, and survival. It is a companion for mothers, a prayer for midwives, and an altar for anyone who has labored, lost, or loved fiercely.
